The thing I like best about your book, Getting A Miracle, is the fact that it is written by a man of the 21st Century. I read Psalms a lot but have a hard time relating to King David. Even thought the life experiences were different for him than for me, the lessons are still the same. These words are for us today in 2005 and much easier to relate to.
Ramona Jones owner of Natures Response.com says of Getting A Miracle:
You don't need a chronic illness to benefit from this book; all you need is your heart, mind and spirit. Words cannot express the heart-warming passages written in this book. It's an inspirational guide, a learning tool, a relaxation aid, and oh so much more. I suggest you get one for yourself and give one as a gift to someone you love and it wouldn't hurt to give it to someone who you think may just enjoy reading it too.
New book of poetry makes spiritual connections with today’s world
May 2007, Denver, Colorado
For author David J. Shrewsbury, good “horse sense” means a life lived through the principles taught in the Bible. Thus his latest work, Horse Sense: Insight for Today’s World, brings to the world of literature a volume of poetry that is heartfelt, humorous, political, and “miraculous”—poems born of the heart’s experience and inspired by biblical teachings. “I write about God’s Love,” he says, “and the possibilities of a wonderful world by and through the Word of God.Horse Sense: Insight for Today’s World shows that God through His Spirit is a reality in our existence.”
Shrewsbury was a single parent and the father of two young boys when he was diagnosed with stage four (end stage) liver disease. While going through a workup for surgery, doctors decided that he would never survive a transplant. Shrewsbury was given six months to a year to live and told to put his affairs in order. “This brought me to my knees day and night,” he says, “trying everything I had learned in the Bible to get God’s attention to extend my life.”
Nine years later, Shrewsbury is living proof of the redemptive power of faith. “We can never tell or convince God to give us a miracle,” he says, “but I want you to know that I am a true receiver of one.For the first time in thirty years I have near normal blood values and no heart problems, and I am completely off of heart medication. I have gone from sitting in a chair to playing golf, bowling, and motorcycle riding. I am now remarried. I am like Job in the Bible who had everything taken away and then restored to him by God.”
David J. Shrewsbury’s first book Getting A Miracle – Light Covering Darkness won the “Best Unique Devotional 2006” award. Shrewsbury, who is in the top five poets on the World of Poets website, recently won the best reviewer award. His poem “Creatvolution” introduces the workbook for the Creation Seminar Video Series of creation scientist Russ Miller. Shrewsbury’s poems can be found in a number of published anthologies, including God’s Rainbow Book, which was given to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. He is also listed as a Poet Laureate on Poets.com.
